Commemorating the victims of World War II and the Victory over Nazism in World War II
Every year, in early May, Ukraine, along with many other countries, bows its head to the memory of the millions who died in the bloodiest war of the twentieth century, the Second World War. On these days, we remember those who gave their lives for freedom, who survived the hell of the front lines, concentration camps, occupation, famine, bombing.
The Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation is not only a tribute to the past, but also a realization of the depth of the losses that humanity has suffered. It is also a reminder of the price of peace and the fragility of human life. We remember not only the military, but also millions of civilian victims – women, children, and the elderly – who died as a result of war crimes, deportations, and the Holocaust.
In every city, every village, there are monuments, obelisks, and mass graves where we lay flowers, light candles, and stand in silence in gratitude for their deeds.
Today, the war unleashed by Russia against our country is once again ongoing on the European continent. It is as cruel as it was 80 years ago. So we, like no one else, know about the pain of losses and destruction caused by war. And we know the price of peace as well! Today, we bow our heads in gratitude to the soldiers, all the victims of the Second World War, who won for us, the next generations, the right to live in peace and tranquility. And we promise to do everything we can to ensure that a just peace prevails in Ukraine, so that humanity will never experience the horrors of war in the future.
We remember. We honor. We do not forget.
May peace, tranquility and goodness reign on our blessed land!
Eternal memory to the fallen, honor and glory to the living heroes!
Glory to Ukraine!
