Congratulations of the leaders of Euro Coop on the New Year and Christmas
Dear cooperators, dear colleagues!
This holiday season is a good opportunity to look back on a very tumultuous 2020 year that was filled with challenges on an unprecedented scale, as well as the considerable efforts that consumer cooperatives have made to serve our consumers, members and representatives of local communities.
First, we want to express our sincere condolences to those who have lost relatives or friends, or are now in a critical situation.
When Europe was struggling with a once-in-a-generation crisis, cooperatives actively and faithfully supported those in need and fulfilled their mission of serving people. Because our stores were open, because of the flexibility in our operations, we were able to offer 30 million consumers from 7,000 local communities uninterrupted purchasing under very restricted conditions. Our staff are the heroes of the complex present, and have done an incredible job in recent months. They have not only secured deliveries of the goods, but have also been in direct contact with consumers.
Our 176-year history has shown that in the most difficult times the cooperative movement is strengthened by our unwavering dedication and high responsibility to the people. However, our problems have not yet been overcome. We will continue to draw strength from our history, which states that in cooperation we will overcome everything and will be stronger. We will continue combining efforts based with a firm belief that a path towards stability and prosperity is paved together, step by step. Undoubtedly, we still have much work to do, but we must show persistence and patience.
On these wonderful holidays – Christmas and New Year, we send our warmest greetings to all of you! May the magic of the holidays bring you, your families and colleagues good health, prosperity, peace and quiet. Let’s take a breath, enjoy the shared moments of the holidays with our loved ones, and mobilize our will for the next action!
With cooperative greetings,
Mathias Fiedler, President of Euro Coop,
Todor Ivanov, Secretary General of Euro Coop
Also the Board of Ukrkoopspilka and all workers of the consumer cooperation system received greetings from the heads of Cooperatives Europe, from fellow cooperators in Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Poland, and Hungary.
